About Ron

From film frames to clinical systems.

Ron Ramirez, DNP, NI-BC, writes at the intersection of nursing, informatics, technology, leadership, and the human cost of systems that fail quietly.

I never planned to become a nurse. My first career was in filmmaking, where I learned to pay attention to the frame — what is visible, what is hidden, and what the audience is being asked to notice.

That way of seeing followed me into healthcare. Across roles as an ICU nurse, emergency department nurse, nurse practitioner, supervisor, educator, and nurse informaticist, I kept noticing the same pattern: nurses were not only caring for patients. They were carrying the systems around them.

When technology failed, nurses compensated. When workflows broke, nurses adapted. When documentation, data, and real life drifted apart, nurses became the bridge.

That realization became the foundation for my forthcoming memoir, Between Charts and Codes, and led to the creation of The Nurse’s Journey Compass™.
